There have been a lot of fictional spacecraft on television and film. Actually, only two space-going vehicles from Earth have left our solar system, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. Additionally, three other spacecraft are on interstellar trajectories and will eventually reach interstellar space, though they are not there yet. While the Voyagers are in interstellar space (the space between the stars), under a strict astronomical definition, they will not truly leave the solar system until they pass beyond the Oort Cloud, a vast collection of icy bodies still under the Sun’s gravitational influence. That journey will take thousands of years. That hasn’t prevented human imagination from creating fictional spacecraft that are capable of crossing vast tracts of space, often in seconds.
