A pictogram uses pictures or symbols to represent data or information. A road sign that uses images to convey meaning is a type of pictogram. In maths, charts that use images or symbols instead of bars are also pictograms. A laundry symbol, also called a care symbol, is a pictogram indicating the manufacturer’s suggestions as to methods of washing, drying, dry-cleaning, and ironing clothing. The symbols are usually printed on apparel labelling, also known as care labels, indicating recommended cleaning methods. Although labelling systems may differ from region to region, they tend to use similar pictograms to convey laundry care instructions.
