A pictogram (also pictogramme, pictograph, or simply picto. Also, an ideogram that represents an idea or concept independent of any language.) uses a graphical symbol to convey meaning. A road sign that uses images to convey a meaning is a type of pictogram. In maths, charts that use images or symbols instead of bars are also pictograms. Egyptian hieroglyphs began as pictograms. Although many people think of Egyptian hieroglyphs as logographic or pictographic, combining symbols for entire words with images for individual sounds. That is, it is a system that is partly logographic and partly alphabetic.
In Song Pictograms 06 below there are 20 song titles shown using pictures and symbols as a clue to their name. The songs all charted in the UK and stretch from the 1950s to the 2000s.
