The use of official mascots for FIFA World Cup events began in 1966. Nowadays both men’s and woman’s world cups have official mascots. The designs represent a characteristic or symbol of the host country, such as flora, fauna, or costume. These mascot characters are the Intellectual Property of FIFA.
