National Flags 9

National Flags 9 represent and symbolize a given nation. It is flown by the government of that nation, but can also be flown by its citizens. A national flag is typically designed with specific meanings for its colours and symbols, which may also be used separately from the flag as a symbol of the nation. The design of a national flag is sometimes altered after the occurrence of important historical events.

Historically, flags originated as military standards. During the Age of Sail in the early 17th century, the Union Jack finds its origins, when James VI of Scotland inherited the English and Irish thrones (as James I). The flag of Denmark is based on a flag that has been in continuous use since the 14th-century

Some flags are easily recognisable, such as the UK, the USA, Japan, and China. Some are not though. How many can you identify?
