The Sweet Science of Seed Dispersal
Flowering plants and trees produce fruits specifically to carry and protect their seeds. Furthermore, for millennia, humans and wildlife have actively propagated these edible treats as they forage and travel. Consequently, this creates a brilliant symbiotic relationship: animals enjoy a delicious, nutrient-dense meal, while the plants successfully scatter their seeds across vast distances.
Generally, nature designs these fruits with appealing sweet or tart flavour profiles so we can eat them raw right off the branch. Today, thanks to modern transportation, grocery stores and supermarkets routinely stock an incredible variety of ready-to-eat global fruits year-round.
