The Automotive Landscape
To begin with, the automotive industry comprises a wide range of companies that design, develop, and manufacture motor vehicles. Furthermore, each of these companies creates its own unique car badge or logo. Interestingly, the word “automotive” originates from the Greek autos (self) and the Latin motus (motion), meaning “self-powered” or “of motion.”
Historically, in 2007, drivers operated about 806 million cars and light trucks on the road, consuming over 980 billion litres of petrol and diesel fuel yearly. Subsequently, the governments of 24 developed countries and a group of major car manufacturers committed to “work towards all sales of new cars and vans producing zero emissions globally by 2040, and by no later than 2035 in leading markets.” However, major car-manufacturing nations did not make this pledge.
