Everyday conversations are filled with common sayings and idioms, which are phrases with meanings different from the literal interpretation of the words. Using them makes conversation sound more natural and authentic. Common Phrases 10 (an idiom in conversation): A group of two or more words that functions as a single unit in a sentence. It doesn’t usually contain both a subject and a verb (unless it’s a verb phrase). They are the basic building blocks of sentences, like “on the table,” “a big, green dragon,” or “walking quickly.” They often function as descriptions (adjective phrases) or explain how, where, or when (adverbial phrases).
