A pictogram uses pictures or symbols to represent data or information. A road sign that uses images to convey a meaning is a type of pictogram. In maths, charts that use images or symbols instead of bars are also pictograms. A Safe Condition pictogram communicates the location of emergency equipment or escape routes. BS EN ISO prescribes safety signs for the purposes of accident prevention, indicating the location of emergency equipment or escape routes, emergency exits, first aid, or rescue facilities, emergency equipment location or direction of an escape route. In the UK, employers are required to provide and maintain safety signs where significant risks can’t be avoided or controlled by other means.
